Warmth in Winter
Of warmth in winter, you remind me so
The fairest sight my eyes have long beheld
Your skin as soft and white as falling snow
Your love a steaming cup I never held.
Your eyes alight with flecks of golden fire
Your hair a sweet cascade of gleaming light
Your lips a kiss that every man desires
Your smile a subtle secret in the night.
Yet all is naught, for lo, betwixt us lies
a nation vast, a man, and circumstance.
Thus from afar I gaze with distant eyes
A stranger to your warmth, and your romance.
I’ll not deny, the words we’ve shared are few,
I’d know you well before my life is through.
