Apparently I was quoted in the New York Times at age 8.

Today is the twentieth anniversary of the Quake of '89. For those that don't know, that earthquake devastated the Santa Cruz Mountains and destroyed my family's home, among others. Indeed, the quake laid waste to the entire San Francisco Bay Area. I was eight years old, in the second grade, when it struck, forcing my family out of our home and into a period of inconstancy and instability. This earthquake has thus had a deep impact on the course of my life.

Though I didn't realize it at the time, after the quake I was interviewed and subsequently featured in an article that appeared in the New York Times, along with many of my schoolmates. Though my quote is very brief, I still get a pretty big kick out of it, as it is simple and true. I have a deep love for the mountains and woods that I was raised in, and being uprooted from my home and forced to move to the city was an unwelcome change for me as a boy.

The article in question can be found here:

Enjoy the time-travelling.
