Brigham Young, protégé of Joseph Smith and the founder of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka the Mormons), was a bigoted humbug. With this in mind, his cult is a complete farce, and should be looked upon with contempt due to its primitive xenophobic canon.

He believed, as did many bigoted Protestants in the 18th and 19th century, that black people were descended from Cain, that famed fratricidal figure from the Old Testament, and thus should be denied basic human rights.

In his own words:

"What is that mark? You will see it on the countenance of every African you ever did see upon the face of the earth, or ever will see.... I tell you, this people that are commonly called negroes are the children of old Cain."
(February 5, 1852)

"Any man having one drop of the seed of Cain ... in him cannot hold the priesthood and if no other Prophet ever spake it before I will say it now in the name of Jesus Christ..."
(January 16, 1852)

"Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race—that they should be the 'servant of servants;' and they will be, until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree."

Mormonism is a religion based upon racism and bigotry. It thus has no place in the modern world, and serves no common good nor higher power.

If you were unfortunate enough to have been raised as a Mormon, I would urge you to abandon the ignorant faith of your forebears for the good of all humanity. Hopefully then Mormonism will die off in a few generations, and we will all be the better for it.
