Immigration

At the base of the Statue of Liberty the inscription reads "Send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." Sure enough, the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses are flocking here in droves. Yet we greet them with gunfire. Why?
Everyone seems to be getting worked up about immigration, as if immigrants are the source of the problems in this country. Well, I've got news for you: the people causing problems in this country aren't underpaid latino immigrants, they are overpaid white career politicians who are the pawns of their corporate sponsors. It takes power to ruin a country. With that in mind, when you are looking to scapegoat a certain demographic for the nation's problems, look no further than to those in power. Illegal immigrants couldn't ruin this country if they tried.
People seem to forget that this country was founded by immigrants. If anything, we Americans of European stock should be considered the aliens. The "illegal" latino immigrants are far more closely related to the Native Americans who originally owned this land than we are. Who's to say they shouldn't be allowed to live here and pursue a better life?
It offends me to think that there are a bunch of nut jobs, who have the audacity to call themselves "Minute Men," who are legally allowed to patrol the border and gun down people who attempt to cross it, as if these "aliens" were invaders, as if they presented an actual military threat to the defense of our country. They are merely trying to find a better job, and yet we treat them like Al-Qaeda. It's completely fucking absurd.
I find it especially ridiculous to hear people complain about immigrants in California. The entire Californian economy is based upon the labor of illegal immigrants. The backbone of the labor force in California consists of hard-working Mexican laborers who aren't even paid minimum wage. And you want to deport them as criminals? The real criminals are the business owners who aren't paying their workers a livable salary.
Also, California used to be a part of Mexico! Mexicans should be welcome with open arms, considering that this land was once theirs! They aren't really immigrants; they've always been here. (It should be noted that California was also once an independent political entity... now our taxes are sucked up by the Federal government, who screw us on energy deals and ignore our state laws.)
In other words, stop complaining about illegal immigrants. You were lucky enough to be born an American. They risk their lives attempting to become Americans, JUST LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS DID. Who are you to judge them?
