The Fall of the American Empire

10.18.05

America was once a great nation, raising the bar across the globe in the fields of philosophy, politics, art, literature, music, and science.

Our founding fathers, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, et. al., were highly educated Renaissance Men. They were statesmen, but they were also skilled writers, orators, artists, musicians, and scientists. They were talented in a variety of fields. They were constantly hungry for knowledge. They wrote their own speeches.

What the fuck happened to us?

Bush, our most recent President, is easily the stupidest President our nation has ever had. Like Ozzy Osbourne, his brain has been damaged by decades of cocaine abuse, and he has thus been rendered inarticulate and largely incoherent.

It's as if we've come to glorify stupidity. We have hero-worshipped the biggest buffoons and placed them in the highest office.

America was intended to be a democracy, but the excesses of the aristocracy have once again reared their ugly head. Bush didn't earn his presidency, just like he didn't earn anything in his life. He inherited it all.

While we were once lead by scholars and scientists, we are now lead by the idiot son of a wealthy family, a man who laughs in the face of science and knowledge. Despite a plethora of scientific evidence, Bush doesn't believe in the theory of evolution, and continues to deny the existence of global warming.

Maybe the recent floods will convince him that there is actual climate change going on. Sadly, I doubt it.

Bush and his cronies are far too comfortable ignoring and disregarding facts and intelligence, as they have proven time and time again.

When economists warned Bush that his corrupt tax cut plan could ruin the economy, he ignored the facts and sent checks to everyone in the nation. Of course, the tax cut was anti-progressive, and most of the millions went to the millionaires, while the average citizen got next to nothing.

By 2002, Bush had accumulated more national debt than all of his predecessors combined. Keep in mind, this was before Iraq, and before Katrina, for that matter.

Though there was plenty of evidence suggesting that a terrorist attack would take place on September 11th, the Bush administration and the CIA ignored the facts and neglected to defend against such an attack. In fact, in a measure approved by Bush, Attorney General Richard Ashcroft went so far as to cut the FBI's anti-terrorist funding by 12% on September 10th.

Though there was plenty of evidence linking Al-Qaeda to Saudi Arabia, the Bush administration ignored the facts and pretended that there wasn't a link. Why? Because the Saudis sell us oil, and are thus our allies. Apparently the government thinks that their stock portfolios are more important than the intelligent defense of our nation.

It was known that the attack was planned by Osama bin Laden and many of his Saudi friends. Despite this fact, his family, friends, and many Saudi dignitaries were allowed to flee from America unquestioned after the attack.

There was no evidence linking the American public to the attack. Despite this fact, we, unlike the Bin Ladens, have had to suffer from fascist airport security measures for the past four years, not to mention illegal, unconstitutional breaches of our right to privacy. The Founding Fathers never intended for the government to have so much power at the people's expense.

Though there was no evidence linking Al-Qaeda to Iraq, the Bush administration ignored the facts and pretended that there was a link.

Despite the fact that no traces of WMDs were found in Iraq, the Bush administration ignored the facts and invaded. They should've known that Iraq didn't have WMDs... after all, under the Reagan administration, we sold Iraq 90% of the weapons in their arsenal. Our government knew exactly what Saddam had, because they sold it to him.

Our government has proven that it has no respect for intelligence of any kind. Bush and his administration are incompetent idiots, and we as a people have suffered because of this.

What happened to the days when our Presidents were scholars? What happened to the days when our Presidents were intelligent speakers and cultured diplomats?

Those days are long gone. A President's sex life is now more important to the people than his ability to govern.

The fall of the American Empire has begun.
